As Professor of Statistics at Universität Innsbruck I have been working on several topics related to the S-Training project. My core expertise is in developing methods for statistical modeling and machine learning along with corresponding open-source software implementations, in particular in the R system for statistical computing. In cooperation with researchers from various fields I have been collaborating on applied statistical analyses ranging from atmospheric sciences (especially meteorology and remote sensing) to social sciences (especially economics and psychology). An area of particular interest in these applied cooperations is probabilistic forecasting, mostly for weather forecasting but also for forecasting major sports tournaments.
