I am a sport economist, that is, I try to understand the processes that lead from inputs (decisions primarily) to particular distributions of outputs (outcomes) in sport. Sport is an attractive field for economists as data is so readily available to measure various aspects of inputs and outcomes, and sport embodies the ideal of fair competition that is at the heart of the study of the economy. Equally, the application of economic insights into the world of sport can also often be valuable, and as such I have written a number of papers in journals in economics, management and operations research using sport.
